Motorcycling is an art, not a science. Even if you've been riding for some time there's always something left to learn. Increasing numbers of seasoned riders are flocking to the seven-hour Experienced RiderCourse (ERC) to hone their skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.

The Virginia Rider Training Program is proud to offer the ERC to interested riders!

The ERC will be taught intermittently throughout the year on Sundays from 8:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.

Class Size is limited to 12 students and two Motorcycle Safety Foundation-certified instructors. We will supply all the training materials. Students should have 4,000 miles of experience and a motorcycle endorsement on a valid driver's license. Students will also provide proof of registration and insurance. All motorcycles will be subjected to a safety inspection before being allowed to participate.

Students must use the following protective gear while participation in the ERC:

In the classroom you'll discuss with your peers how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. The Experienced RiderCourse also covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding, and an optional skill evaluation and knowledge test. Using your own motorcycle, you'll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, controlling rear-wheel skids, stopping quickly, cornering and swerving.

Professional Standards for Training
The professional standards established for teaching the Experienced RiderCourse: were created to help ensure that motorcycle safety education is presented in a safe, efficient and professional manner. It is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's belief that high-training standards applied in a professional manner can foster expansion and growth of safe motorcycling.
Only MSF-certified instructors teach the Experienced RiderCourses.
The range training facility is free from pedestrian, animal or vehicle traffic. The pavement is suitable for riding maneuvers such as sharp turns, braking and safe vehicle travel. The surface provides good traction. There are no obstacles that present an unsafe environment. The range is correctly laid out to meet curriculum and safety standards.

The Experienced RiderCourse: is presented with materials supplied by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) as a public service. This does not imply any endorsement by MSF of the sponsor or any other sponsors, supporting organizations, equipment, motorcycles or other materials involved in the presentation of a Experienced RiderCourse. Our aim is to expose students to ways to ride more safely. While we cannot and will not assume responsibility for the safe operation of your motorcycle, it is our hope that by presenting responsible viewpoints on safety we will expose riders and the general public to proper and prudent motorcycle operation. We're here to assist your learning, we cannot guarantee it or put it to use.
